Dragon_Eggs Thomas Lehn & Gerry Hemingway Fire Works |
An astonishing performance by analog synthesist Thomas Lehn (Koln resident) and timbrally-driven percussion Gerry Hemingway (New Jersey). These improvisations are so amazing in person that this is always a duo to catch whenever possible, BUT these improvisations, hand-picked by Tom & Gerry, are nearly as good as the real thing. |

but thou didst not leave Micro-East Collective Fabric |
A trio piece featuring oboist Carrie Shull, cellist Chris Eubank, and guitarist Chuck Johnson. In no way actually related to any theme or idea present in Handel's "Messiah." |

Gather and Cast Micro-East Collective Fabric |
This Ian Davis composition contrasts treble and bass staccato and glissando notes over a bed of diverging trumpet and clarinet lines that set the length of the piece. |

The third out of twenty-one solo improvisations collected on the CD release. A challenging and stunning "must have" for anyone attempting to push their instrument to its limits, whatever the medium or tool. |

Bucket 13 v1 Micro-East Collective Out of My Face |
A Corey Sims conducted composition in which Corey conducts the large ensemble with a bucket, collecting individually improvised phrases while the rhythm section conjures mounting tension. When Corey has collected a bucket-ful of ideas, he mixes them and throws them out, thus conducting the ensemble to repeat all of its disparate notions at once. As much a terrifically amusing performance art piece as a nice improvisational frame. |

Out of My Face Micro-East Collective Out of My Face |
This recording is from a performance at New York's Tonic performance space. Fifteen members of Micro-East Collective drove to New York and teamed with five members of Dr. Nerve, Nick Didkovsky's long-standing performance ensembled. Nick composed "Out of My Face" for this performance. Eugene Chadbourne, long-time resident of Greensboro, curated the Tonic performances and provided this opportunity to Micro-East. |

Exploring the Metal Sphere 1 Micro-East Collective 062099 |
David Morris's composition for large ensemble is partially rule based and partially a frame for conducting the ensemble through slow shifts in dynamics, pitch, and timbre. Although there is an underlying story to the piece, it is not a piece about the story, but a piece about the musical possibilities inherent in a performance. This piece is Part One of a three-part piece; the central part is too long for convenient streaming or download and is available on the CD. |

Lament Micro-East Collective 062099 |
This is an improvisation based on a Gypsy melody sung in the film "Latcho Drom," an amazing, nearly speechless documentary about the Rajasthani roots and nomadic diffusion of music across all of the Central Asia, Middle East and Europe, culminating in Spain. The approach taken was for each member of this large ensemble to take the melody and play it in whole or in part in any range, perhaps literally and perhaps allusively. |

Portent Mahlon Hoard and Ian Davis Fourteen Episodes of a Serial Drama |
"Portent" is third in a series of duos for an hypothetical episodic drama. In this case, the sequence of titles seems to suggest some disaster of a biologic or invasive nature. "Portent," therefore, is an episode concerned with the initiation of suspicion that something is going horribly wrong. Any additional information is held in the sound of the instruments. |
